Card-to-Post 1

When my boyfriend and I decided to start sending each other a postcard, I thought it would be so much fun. When did the last time a couple sending each other a postcard in this century? The bookstores in this town gave me the answer : they can't even remember.

I visited almost every bookstore I could find yesterday, only to find a simple postcard. However, most of those bookstores don't sell postcards anymore and it frustrated me. Even the chasier girl told me that postcards are so last year and suggested me to go to the post office to buy them. I couldn't express myself how upset I am about this and I left.

I gave boyfriend a call and told him everything, he was upset as well. How could they don't sell postcards anymore while it's a common thing to buy there in Finland? Well, it's a place where people prefer to get a call instead of postcards. People use text messages, skype, whatsapp, facebook, and instagram to exchange pictures and words. The cashier girl was right, apparently, postcards are so last year.

But hey, I finally found a postcard. The postcard isn't the one I expected actually but it isn't that bad. I expected to get a cute postcard, maybe a bit colorful, but all I got was a postcard with a picture of a monument in my city. Well, even the picture is not an updated one since the monument has been tastefully renovated, it even has a park around it now. But I won't complain. I got what I need. Mission accomplished.

Well, practically not yet, I still have to send them.

So the next day I wrote something on it, the addressee's address as well. This was also somewhat confusing : what to write?! I had limited space to write and I wanted to tell so many things on it. I even googled about what people would write on their postcard. It was so embarrassing actually, that I had to google such a simple thing. I eventually decided to write something cliché.

About the lollipop thing, that was true. NO ONE ALLOWS ME TO SEND LOLLIPOP ON A POSTCARD. It broke my heart.

Nevertheless, I went to post office to send them, of course. I had to buy the stamps first, the lady there told me they have two kind of stamps: the big one and the small one. She looked at my postcard and told me, "You definitely need the small one". There was not much space for the stamps.

The pink stamps, you can see on the pict, were supposed to be birthday greeting stamps. Janne's birthday is on March, but I had no choice other than to accept those stamps and put it on my postcards. It needed a while for the glue to dry, even when I left the postcard there the lady said she would put the postcard on the table for some times and wait for it to dry. I had no idea if she would finally send it or just put it there for like... a year.. but I'm quite sure no one will keep my postcard on the table for a year.

So yeah, I sent it. I felt soooo cool and satisfied when I left the post office that day. I sent something abroad, something I hadn't done before and it was not difficult at all. Back then in elementry school, I had one lesson about sending someone a postcard, like how to write an address properly and what to write on a postcard but I never actually sent them. Years from that day I never thought I'd actually send one, it was great. I didn't have to use whatsapp, skype, or facebook to say hi. We got a chance to know how it feels to wait patiently for something you like the most.

I'm sure I will be back to the post office next months and send another postcards... which I print it myself :')
